Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe opened in downtown Chapel Hill in 2010, in the middle of an economic downtime not so different from today. The restaurant was my friends' idea before it was mine, and when no bank would lend to a restaurant, family and friends made it possible.
For 16 years, your support has sustained us. COVID was hard. Since then, we borrowed at high interest from credit cards and easy-access lenders. Today we pay nearly $16,000 a month in minimum payments, and much of that never touches the principal. Most of our earnings, each day, goes to those payments, making it unsustainable.
So today, I'm launching a capital campaign to raise $350,000 in gifts and interest-free loans, enough to pay off every high-interest debt and put Curryblossom on a sustainable footing.
